MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – A photo exhibition “We are From Belarus” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian statehood has opened in the Beit Amot center in Haifa, Israel, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Israel.
The exhibition has been organized by the Tzafon photo club. It is traditionally held under the auspices of the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration and Haifa City Hall with the support of the Embassy of Belarus.
The exhibition features 200 works by more than 100 authors, both citizens of Belarus and Belarus natives living in Israel, Russia, the United States, the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic. Photographs are mostly dedicated to Belarusian nature, its memorable places, traditions and modern life.
Some photos have been provided by the embassy, among them are works by BelTA photographers and archival materials of Belarusian museums. The photos tell about the development of Belarusian statehood, Belarusian-Israeli ties, the life of the Jewish community in Belarus. A separate section is dedicated to the Holocaust and displays photographs of the Trostenets death camp and the Minsk Ghetto, photos from the Gate of Memory commemorative meeting on the occasion of the opening of the Trostenets Memorial in June 2018.
This year Belarus celebrates the centennial anniversaries of the BSSR and the Belarusian diplomatic service, Belarusian Ambassador to Israel Vladimir Skvortsov said as he addressed the opening ceremony. He stressed that the most important historical date of 2019 is the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis. The ambassador said that the country launched a series of memorial events of the year with the commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Haifa Vice Mayor Lazar Kaplun announced the intention to continue cooperation with Belarus in various areas, including the exchange of delegations, the organization of bilateral joint events and the possible establishment of twinning relations with one of the Belarusian cities.
One of the organizers of the exhibition and the heads of the Tzafon photo club Boris Belenky emphasized the ever growing friendship ties between Belarus and Israel in various areas, including cultural and humanitarian ones, which bring countries and peoples closer together.
The exposition “We are From Belarus” will be showcased in Minsk and Vitebsk in 2019. Works by Vitebsk photographers will be displayed in Haifa in May. In addition, Haifa plans to host an exhibition of works dedicated to the places where the photographers and their ancestors hail from.
The exhibition “We are From Belarus” will stay open in Haifa through late February. The Israeli city will then play host to the vernissage “The World Through Women’s Eyes” to mark International Women’s Day celebrated on 8 March. Belarus is a regular active participant in the event.
