MINSK, 30 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Baraulya has been approved as Belarus’ chef de mission for the 23rd Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang at a recent meeting of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus, BelTA learned from the NOC.
Head of the International Relations Department of the National Olympic Committee Vasily Yurchik was named Belarus’ deputy Olympic chief.
The Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang will take place on 9-25 February 2018. At present Belarusian athletes are competing for the right to present Belarus at the Olympics in biathlon, aerials, cross-country skiing, speed skating, short track, and figure skating. They are expected to win 25-30 Olympic berths.
Belarus won five gold (three by biathlete Darya Domracheva) and one bronze medals at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
