MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – In an official statement the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation expressed support of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in its position on the participation of the Russian team in the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, BelTA learned from the press service of the federation.
“The Belarusian Ice Hockey Association supports the statement of the International Ice Hockey Federation regarding Russia’s participation in the Winter Olympic Games. Although the Belarusian team can replace the Russian team in the 2018 Winter Games theoretically, we are convinced that the Russian national team fully deserves the right to be in South Korea. We believe that all clean athletes should be given the opportunity to take part in the competitions,” the statement runs.
The International Olympic Committee is set to rule on the participation of Russian athletes in the 2018 Winter Games at its Executive Board meeting on 5-7 December.
