MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – A truck of Belarus’ MAZ-SPORTavto team came first in the third leg of Silk Way Rally for the first time in history, BelTA has learned.
The third 329km-long special stage of the rally featured speedy sections. Truck racer Sergei Vyazovich, the leader of the MAZ-SPORTavto team, set off in seventh spot and soon outpaced all of his competitiors clocking the best time of 3h33m.
The Belarusian racer was followed by Martin Kolomy of the Czech Republic who finished almost a minute later. The Stage 3 podium was rounded up by Dutchman Ton van Genugten. After the third stage of the rally, Sergei Vyazovich moved to the ninth position overall.
Aleksei Vishnevsky came in seventh. He cleared the stage in 3h47m losing some 13 minutes to the stage winner.
Alexander Vasilevsky finished 12th clocking 4h5m.
This year’s Silk Way Rally is running through Russia, Kazakhstan and China to wrap up at Xi'an on 22 July. The racers will travel a total of 9,599km, with special sections making up 4,094km.
