MINSK, 5 July (BelTA) - Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (world No.2) reached the second round at Wimbledon, BelTA has learned.
On 4 July, the Belarusian defeated Hungary’s Panna Udvardy (82) 6-3, 6-1 in one hour. Sabalenka will face either Italian Camila Giorgi or Varvara Gracheva of France in round two.
Yesterday, the former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus (20) prevailed over China’s Yue Yuan (106) 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Victoria Azarenka's next opponent will be Argentina's Nadia Podoroska (80).
The match between Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (69) and Spain’s Nuria Parrizas Diaz (105) was postponed due to rain. So was the match between Belarusian Ilya Ivashko (102) and Argentinean Federico Coria (104).
The Wimbledon tournament with a total prize pot of £44.7 million will end on 16 July. Winners in men's and women's singles will pocket £2.35m each.
