MINSK, 8 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia need to devise exchange programs for students and professors which could be financed from the budget of the Union State, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the plenary meeting of the 3rd Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions on 8 June, BelTA has learned.
“When developing the educational space of the Union State we need to expand the academic mobility of students and professors. I think we need to give practical consideration to the development of programs of academic and youth exchanges in the Union State which could be financed from the Union State budget,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
Mikhail Myasnikovich also believes that the Union State has fully realized the equal right of citizens of the two countries to education. This applies to all levels, including primary and secondary special education.
For her part, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matviyenko noted that the two countries have achieved great successes. “For many years, citizens of Russia and Belarus have enjoyed equal rights to education, which is enshrined in the Treaty of 1998. Many get enrolled into the budget-sponsored departments, receive scholarships, and get a place in dormitories,” she said.
More than 7,500 students are enrolled in the Belarusian-Russian University in Mogilev. “I have no doubt that its graduates will make a significant contribution to the economic and cultural integration of our countries in the future,” noted Valentina Matviyenko.
