MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Belarusian players have advanced to the women’s quarterfinal of the Online Draughts Cup of Nations. The competitions are under the aegis of the World Draughts Federation (FMJD), BelTA has learned.
Eleven teams took part in the women's event. They played in a round-robin system, with the six best advancing to the playoffs. The Belarusian team defeated the Netherlands in the first round and drew with Ukraine in the third. Belarus beat Latvia in the fourth round and lost to Russia in the fifth. Belarus saw off Israel in the sixth round and lost to Mongolia in the seventh. Belarus defeated China in the eighth round and Suriname – in the ninth. Belarus routed Estonia 7-1 in the tenth round and blanked Brazil 8-0 in the eleventh. The Belarusian women’s team goes 3rd with 15 points. Belarus will face Latvia in the quarterfinal.
The Belarusian men’s team lost to Guinea Bissau (4-4) in the return leg of the round of Last 16 and is out of the tournament. In the first match Belarus lost 3-5. According to the preliminary stage, Belarus goes fourth with ten points. The men's tournament determined 14 playoff participants among 29 national teams according to the Swiss system. The Belarusian athletes won five rounds and lost two.
The first online tournament of the European Youth Cup Draughts-100 will be held from 1 to 8 August. More than 600 players from 12 countries will take part in the tournament.
