MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – The Anatoly Kharlampiyev Memorial Sambo Tournament took place in Moscow. Belarusians won 11 medals in its two days, with Yekaterina Prokopenko collecting gold in the 60kg event, BelTA has learned.
Yekaterina Prokopenko claimed the champion title beating Georgia’s Shorena Sharadze in the final. Apart from the gold, Belarusian sambo athletes took ten bronze medals. Among the medalists were Leila Abbasova (48kg), Olesya Staroverova (52kg), Tatyana Mattsko (64kg), and Valeriya Smirnova (72kg).
In the men’s events, bronze medals went to Sergei Lisyak (90kg), Dzhambulat Akhmadov (57kg), Stepan Popov (74kg), Yevgeny Semochkin (100kg), Tikhomir Blagovestov (74kg), and Vasily Ivanov (68kg).
This year the Anatoly Kharlampiyev Memorial was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Partaking in the competitions were more than 300 sambo wrestlers from 34 countries.
