Belarus President’s team win amateur ice hockey tournament for 11th time

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – The Belarus President’s team beat the Minsk Oblast team 8-4 in the second match of the final to win the 13th nationwide amateur ice hockey tournament for the prizes of the Presidential Sport Club on 12 April, BelTA has learned.

The Minsk Oblast team got on the scoreboard seven minutes into the game, with Aleksandr Babok capitalizing on a quick counterattack. However, the hosts retook the lead several minutes later. Andrei Glebov leveled off just before Andrei Bashko   scored the second, with an assist from Aleksandr Lukashenko. Two more goals from Denis Mogilatov and Aleksei Kuveko placed the visitors in front once again before the first hooter.

Early in the middle stanza Aleksandr Ryadinsky got an assist from Nikolai Lukashenko to tie the game up. Soon Aleksandr Burmistronok’s goal took the visiting team in front again.

As soon as the final period started, the Belarus President’s team made it 5-4 thanks to Aleksei Krutikov’s effort. The visitors tried hard to catch up but failed. The hosts scored three more late in the final stanza. The scorers were Mikhail Grabovski, Andrei Mikhalev and Pavel Volchek.

Pavel Volchek and Artyom Puchkovsky were named players of the match. The Belarus President’s team won the first match of the final series 7-3.

Among the best players of the tournament were named Sergei Rogovsky (goalie, Minsk Oblast team), Andrei Bashko (defenseman, Belarus President’s team), and Andrei Rashchinsky (forward, Minsk Oblast team). Captain of the Belarus President’s team Oleg Antonenko was named the best striker with 19 points (seven goals and 12 assists). Second best striker was Nikolai Lukashenko with 17 points (8 goals and 9 assists).

The Belarus President’s team won six out of six matches in the preliminary round, scoring 12 points. In the semifinal Grodno Oblast team lost 12-3. Minsk Oblast team placed third in the regular season and defeated Brest Oblast team 4-2 to reach the final. 

Brest Oblast team secured bronze, seeing off Grodno Oblast team 7-3.

The Belarus President’s team won the tournament for 11th time. The teams of Gomel Oblast and Minsk Oblast raised the trophy once each.

The 13th nationwide amateur ice hockey tournament was organized by the Presidential Sport Club, the Sport and Tourism Ministry, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation and the Minsk City Hall.
