MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarusian school students bagged four medals at the 2017 International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) in Belgrade, Serbia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Education Ministry.
Student of Mogilev Gymnasium No. 3 Pavel Stulnikov claimed gold. Three students of gymnasiums of Minsk, Vitebsk, and Brest won bronze medals. The team coaches were Gennady Ozem, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Head of the Chair of Economic Geography of Belarus and the CIS at the Faculty of Geography of Belarusian State University, and Lyudmila Fokeyeva, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor of the International Tourism Chair at the International Relations Faculty of Belarusian State University.
The iGeo was held from 2 to 7 August. The Belarusians competed with 160 students from 41 countries.
The participants had to demonstrate their geography knowledge and a good command of English, the official language of the olympiad. The iGeo comprised three parts: a written test, a multimedia test and substantial fieldwork requiring observation.
