MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - The National Library of Belarus will host a presentation of the facsimile edition of the Lavrishevo Gospel on 1 March, BelTA learned from the library.
“This unique handwritten specimen of the early period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania became available to researchers and lovers of the Belarusian medieval history thanks to the facsimile reproduction project. The facsimile edition was published by the Gorobets publishing house in Kiev, Ukraine in late 2018. The Lavrishevo Gospel has become the historical value of four countries: Belarus, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine,” the National Library said.
The Lavrishevo Gospel is the 13th-14th century manuscript written for the Orthodox Monastery in the village of Lavrishevo near Novogrudok, as evidenced dedicatory inscriptions. The Gospel is decorated with illuminations and has a binding with precious stones and a shaped metal plate with the image of the holy warrior (perhaps Prince Voishelk).
