SK, 26 February (BelTA) – A student of the Vezhnovets Ballet School, eight-year-old Maya Sivets has scored a victory at the international dance festival Tanzolymp in Berlin, BelTA learned from Marina Vezhnovets, the director of the school, Merited Artist of Belarus, and prima ballerina of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus.
Maya Sivets took a gold medal in the Classical Dance category in the 8-12 age group, which helped Belarus place eighth in the overall standings. Maya Sivets was the only Belarusian representative who participated in the gala concert which featured the world’s best dancers of the year. She also performed well in the Modern Dance category (solo, the 8-12 age group), winning a bronze medal.
“Maya Sivets always does everything to the best of her ability, she is not the one to back down. Teacher’s word is a law to her, this is why she shows great results. Despite her young age, Maya performed very difficult moves neatly, which did not go unnoticed by the jury,” Marina Vezhnovets said.
The competition was held on 13-17 February. It featured more than 1,000 participants aged 8-21 from various countries, including Japan, Singapore, the USA, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Brazil, Germany, and Italy. They competed in six categories.
According to Marina Vezhnovets, Tanzolymp is one of the most serious dance competitions in the world. “There are two main contests in this age group: Youth America Grand Prix and Tanzolymp. The event brings together a lot of heads of schools and theaters and prima ballerinas from all over the world. The competition means a lot because the jury includes around 15 people,” Marina Vezhnovets noted.
