MINSK, 3 May (BelTA) – Irina Kurochkina of Belarus won gold in the women’s -55kg event at the 2018 European Wrestling Championships in Kaspiysk, Russia, BelTA has learned.
On her way to the podium the Belarusian defeated the athletes from Russia, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria before beating Roxana Marta Zasina from Poland in the final.
Earlier, Belarusian wrestler Viktor Sosunovsky won silver in the men’s -82kg event.
Irina Kurochkina is one of the most decorated athletes in the Belarusian national women’s wrestling team. She won gold at the 2017 European Junior Wrestling Championships and silver at the 2016 European Wrestling Championships in Riga, Latvia.
