MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – Nearly 5,000 people will take part in the military parade in Minsk to mark the country’s Independence Day on 3 July, Vladimir Makarov, spokesman for the ideology department of the Defense Ministry of Belarus, told BelTA.
One of the main draws of the Independence Day celebrations on 3 July will be a parade of the Minsk Garrison near the Minsk City Hero Stele in the city’s downtown. Partaking in the show will be about 5,000 people, including those involved in the organization of the event.
18 parade detachments, a total of nearly 3,100 military personnel, will march in parade ranks before Minsk residents and guests. Drummers of the Suvorov Minsk Military Academy will open the parade. They will be joined by military cadets and academic staff of the Military Academy of Belarus, students of the Military-Technical Department of the Belarusian National Technical University, military of the 120th Guards Separate Mechanized Rogachev Red Banner Order of Suvorov and Kutuzov Brigade, representatives of the border services. The military parade will also feature Russia’s 104th Guards Red Banner Air Assault Regiment of the 76th Guards Air Assault Chernigov Red Banner Order of Suvorov Division.
The parade will feature 14 parade detachments of military equipment including the equipment used during the Great Patriotic War such as T-34-85 tanks, Su-100 self-propelled guns, and IC-2 heavy tanks. Modern equipment will be also paraded: battle tank T-72B, BTR-80 armored personnel carrier (APC), Bogatyr cross-country vehicle, 122-mm self-propelled howitzer Gvozdika, multiple-launch rocket system Smerch and the multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) Polonez, the pride of the national military-industrial complex.
The parade will conclude with the aerial display featuring 29 jets and 15 helicopters, including Mi-2, Mi-24, MI-8, An-26, Yak-130, Su-25, MiG-29, IL-76, l-39.
The dress rehearsal was held on 29 June.
