MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 63 Ilya Ivashka has advanced to the Winston-Salem Open semifinal, dismissing world number 12 Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in the quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
Earlier, the Belarusian defeated Italy’s world number 88 Andreas Seppi 6-4, 6-4 and saw off Croatia’s world number 36 Marin Cilic 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Ilya Ivashka eased past Jan Lennard Struff of Germany (World No. 52) 6-2, 6-1 in the third-round match. The Belarusian will next face world number 76 Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland.
In Cleveland Belarus’ world number 99 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost 2-6, 4-6 to Romania’s world number 74 Irina Begu in the quarterfinal. Earlier, the Belarusian solved world number 119 Christina McHale of the United States 6-4, 7-5 and world number 37 Nadia Podoroska of Argentina 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4.
The tournaments serve as a rehearsal ahead of the season’s final Grand Slam tournament – US Open, which is due to take place in New York on 30 August-12 September.
