Belarus’ humanitarian internet project seeks international status in CIS

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian humanitarian internet project “Harmony: Literature and Journalism of the CIS States” is seeking a status of the CIS interstate internet portal, BelTA learned from the Department of Humanitarian Cooperation, General Political and Social Issues of the CIS Executive Committee.

Minsk is set to host the relevant expert meeting at the CIS headquarters on 23-24 May. On 11 January the CIS Executive Committee distributed the materials on the international status of the recourse among the CIS member states. The internet project was supported by Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. “We have also received proposals and remarks on the submitted materials from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science and the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund. At the forthcoming meeting experts will discuss the proposals and remarks, finalize and coordinate the draft documents,” the department said.

Harmony: Literature and Journalism of the CIS States is the CIS only internet project aimed at making cultural and artistic space closer to each other. The project was developed by the publishing house Zvyazda in 2013 and is supported by the Information Ministry of Belarus. The website publishes news, interviews, analytical materials on the literature development processes in the CIS countries. It includes projects on classics (prose and poetry) in national languages, for instance “Yanka Kupala”, “Writers of the Caucasus”, “Armenian Classics”. The website initiates international literary competitions. The best works are then published in bulletins and magazines. The website is operated by the publishing house Zvyazda. The project aims to popularize the artistic and spiritual heritage of the CIS countries, promote the development of the common information space in the CIS.
