MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) - Belarusian athletes are taking part as neutrals in the 2024 European Wrestling Championships in Bucharest, Romania, BelTA has learned.
Belarus’ Alesia Hetmanava clinched bronze in the Women’s Wrestling 59kg event. The Belarusian wrestler opened her run with a victory over Eda Tekin of Turkiye and then lost to Alina Filipovych of Ukraine in the quarterfinal. With her rival reaching the final, Alesia Hetmanava got a chance to compete for bronze.
The Belarusian was to face Anastasia Nichita of Moldova who had to withdraw due to an injury got in the previous bout. Alesia Hetmanava secured bronze. The Belarusian athlete is a junior world champion and a medalist of the 2nd CIS Games.
Belarus has so far won three medals at the ongoing event in Romania. Kiryl Maskevich and Abubakar Khaslakhanau clinched bronze medals in the Greco-Roman event.
The women’s wrestling medal events will be held on 15-16 February. The freestyle medal events are scheduled for 17-18 February.
