MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – Belarus ranks first among the countries of the CIS by the number of organ and tissue transplant surgeries, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry.
Organ and tissue transplant operations represent one of the most actively developing fields of hi-tech medical care in Belarus. The country holds the first position among the CIS member states by the number of transplants per one million people. Belarusian specialists share experience with their foreign colleagues including those from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Tajikistan, and Russia.
As many as 408 organ transplantations were performed in 2014, including 45 heart transplants, 285 kidney transplants, 77 liver transplants, and one lungs transplant.
The Healthcare Ministry also said it is stepping up the provision of high-tech medical care keeping in mind the needs of the population. Many hi-tech medical services have already become a common practice in Belarus’ regions. These services include cardiac surgeries, joint replacements, brain and spinal tumor surgeries, and others.
A total of over 13,000 hi-tech operations were carried out in Belarus in 2014. These included 5,730 coronary artery interventions; 2,102 valve correction surgeries; 814 tachyarrhythmia operations; 1,395 brain and spinal surgeries; and 6,460 joint replacements.
“The hi-tech methods of medical treatment we are introducing fully meet international standards, and the medical devices comply with international quality standards,” the ministry said.
