Belarus Events Calendar: February 2019

Park of Magic Lights

An exhibition of lighting installations is open 24/7 in the evening time: Here you can enjoy the magic show of lights. More than 30 compositions, among which there is a dynamic tunnel, a 10-meter “waterfall”, “The Eiffel Tower”, “a volcano”, create a cozy atmosphere of magic Christmas evenings. You can continue an evening stroll by visiting the Father Frost's residence and the mirror maze.

Panna Dollya International Expo

This exposition combines original paintings by Piotr Frolov (Russia), Anna Silivonchik and Vasily Peshkun with Marina Kapilova’s personal project Birds’ Theater. The main character of the exposition is a doll called Panna Dollya (the original name is – Life Is Good) created by Belarusian designer Tatyana Polyakova. Visitors will certainly appreciate a diversity of techniques and materials (from textiles to rare porcelain) used to create this unique collection of over 400 works (they are indeed unique, because they were made in a single copy). A separate exposition is dedicated to fashion history. The exhibition will open in the National Center of Contemporary Arts.

Salvador Dali & Pablo Picasso Exhibition

The exposition featuring over 125 original works by the world’s greatest artists Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso will open in the LIBRA exhibition hall. In addition to the unique collection, the curators promise an educational program with lectures from art experts and master classes where visitors will be able to try to paint one of the works of these outstanding artists.

Dreams About France Expo in Minsk

Twenty-three Belarusian painters will showcase their Dreams about France in Minsk. The exposition celebrating this beautiful European country will feature different works of art: painting, graphics, photography, ceramics, chinaware, and textile. The exhibition will offer a wide education program, including excursions, workshops and themed meetings.

Wonderful Home in Belarusian State Circus

The Belarusian State Circus presents a new show to mark its 60th anniversary. Wonderful Home is a spectacular show featuring trampoliners, strongmen, trapeze artists and clowns. The audience will also see bears on skateboards, horses, coatimundis, marine animals.

Andrei Konchalovsky in Minsk

Outstanding filmmaker Andrei Konchalovsky, whose film Paradise received the Silver Lion for Best Director at the 73rd Venice Film Festival in 2016, will share his thoughts on modern culture, the place and role of theater and cinematography, human strengths and weaknesses, relations between men and women

February Motofest

The bike festival starts in February ahead of the spring launch of the 2019 season! The highlight of the program is a 100km rally where two teams will compete using sidecars, ATVs, motorcycles and dune buggies. Guests of the festival will have an opportunity to take an extreme sled ride, watch themed films and enjoy tasty treats.

Beyond the Bounds choreography festival-competition

The event will feature teams from Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine and China. This year the festival will open a special nomination Heart Movement for teams consisting of children with hearing impairment. Minsk Palace of Trade Unions invites everyone to see the art going beyond the bounds of possibility, to enjoy the ease of dance and the beauty of movements, and to receive inspiration.

Love Belarusian style

In the run-up to Valentine’s Day the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Lifestyle invites to learn to love Belarusian style. Visitors will be able to learn more about love and marriage traditions of Belarusians, to take part in folk rites, learn how to make lovebirds dolls, which are viewed as family guardians and a symbol of loyalty and strong relationships, and to take part in a funny competition for the best couple.

Coffee Fest Belarus 2019

The festival celebrating this refreshing beverage will certainly rock your way! The festival will be held under the motto “Coffee is Rock” and will include competitions of professional baristas, tasting of more than 300 coffee varieties. Visitors will be offered master classes where they will learn to make coffee and cook dishes using coffee). Coffee Fest Belarus 2019 will delight children with the Mother’s Beans festival, art workshops and Coffee Theater, while their parents will be able to talk to psychologists and children’s nutritionists in the lounge zone over a cup of good coffee.

PlaStform plastic theaters festival

PlaStform is an opportunity for talented actors to make a name for themselves and demonstrate modern theater trends. The scale of the festival grows year to year. Minsk has already welcomed plastic theaters from the CIS countries, Poland, Tanzania, Nigeria and Australia.

Radio and Juliet/Quatro ballet in Minsk

On the eve of St Valentine’s Day, William Shakespeare’s well-known tragedy Romeo and Juliet will be performed to the songs of the UK’s rock band Radiohead. Developed by Slovenian choreographer Edward Clug Radio and Juliet is a symbiosis of classical ballet and rock music. The show features actors of The Great Gatsby Ballet.

J:MORS

J:MORS will celebrate St Valentine’s Day with the concert Kryly (Wings) named after the main single from their new album. The rock band led by Vladimir Pugach will perform both new songs and well-known hits.

Vanessa Rubin in Minsk

Outstanding U.S. jazz singer and composer Vanessa Rubin will make her debut in Minsk. Her unique voice and performing style have won the hearts of many around the world. She has so far performed together with Frank Foster, Kenny Burrell, Grover Washington, Don Braden.

Falcon PSA Squash Cup Open

The international squash ranking tournament with the prize pool of $5,000 will be held in Minsk with the support of the Professional Squash Association. The tournament will include medal events in PSA, Men Elite and Women Elite. The participants will represent 17 countries: Australia, Belarus, Great Britain, Hungary, Denmark, Egypt, Israel, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine, France, and the Czech Republic.

2019 IBU Open European Championships in Raubichi

The Raubichi Olympic Center has already proved itself as one of the world’s best venues for training and top-level competitions (the center hosted world and European championships, and the 49th IBU Youth/Junior World Championships  in 2015) The center will welcome 317 biathletes from 34 countries for the 2019 IBU Open European Championships.

Kalozha Chime church music festival

A big international church music festival titled as Kalozha Chime is about pure voices, soulful melodies, spirit of liturgical music and unique church singing traditions. Around 50 choirs from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Serbia and other countries come to Grodno every year in February. Those are church choirs and ensembles, choirs of priests and theological schools, professional and amateur secular choirs. The Kalozha Chime festival also includes evenings of spiritual poetry and bard songs, photo exhibitions, and mobile expositions of the Museum of Religion History.
