MOSCOW, 27 November (BelTA) – The event to mark the 250th birthday of Michal Kleofas Oginski gathered the creative intelligentsia of Moscow in the Belarusian embassy in Russia on 26 November, BelTA informs.
Attending the event to honor the memory of the outstanding composer were representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Culture Ministry of Russia, biggest Moscow libraries and museums, leading music theaters of the Russian capital and cultural centers of various countries.
“2015 is an important year for the Belarusian culture. Under the initiative of Belarus, Lithuania and Poland, the celebration of Michal Kleofas Oginski’s 250th birthday has been included into the UNESCO list of anniversaries of historic events and eminent personalities,” said Yuri Yaroshevich, minister counselor at the Belarusian embassy in Russia.
According to the minister counselor, Michal Kleofas Oginski is known not only as a talented composer but also as a brilliant public figure and diplomat. Oginski’s creative legacy has become common for Belarus and its neighboring states, which once again confirms the depth of the European roots of the Belarusian culture.
“His name is inseparably associated with the history of the Belarusian art, while the composer’s works stand out in the Belarusian music heritage, magnetizing with their sincerity, warmth and profoundness. He once was popular in Russia, too. His polonaises were played at balls in Petersburg,” Yuri Yaroshevich stressed.
The evening in the Belarusian embassy in Russia featured a presentation of the multimedia electronic resource Serving the Motherland, developed by the National Library of Belarus. Then, the guests of the event got familiar with a book exhibition from the funds of the National Library, featuring the rarest literary and music works related to the life and creative activity of the composer.
The event was wrapped up with a bright their play staged by the Belarusian Music Academy. This play has already tours Lithuania, Poland and France.
