MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – Belarus played in a 1-1 draw against Luxembourg in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification game on 10 October, BelTA has learned.
Aurelien Joachim netted the equalizer with his free kick five minutes after substitute Pavel Savitsky opened the scoring with his header in the 80th minute. Belarus held the initiative virtually throughout the game but Luxembourg managed to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at Borisov Arena.
During the post-game conference Alexander Khatskevich said that his men showed their level best, but the deflected free kick into Andrei Gorbunov’s net spoiled the end of the game.
Elsewhere in Group A, the Netherlands lost 0-1 to France in Amsterdam, while Sweden blanked Bulgaria 3-0 in Stockholm.
The current Group A standings are as follows: France – 7 points, Sweden – 7, Netherlands – 4, Bulgaria -3, Belarus- 2, Luxembourg – 1.
Belarus will next take on Bulgaria.
