MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian documentary entitled Chernobyl. An Exam for the Nation (Evgeny Setko) won in the nomination Author’s Work at the 21^st international ecological TV festival To Save and Preserve in Khanty Mansiysk, BelTA learned from the national cinema studio Belarusfilm.

The film describes today’s life of Belarus, the state’s efforts to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. Over the past 30 years more than 140,000 people have been resettled from the areas of radioactive pollution. The country applies a well-developed system of radioactive control and monitoring. Over 1 million people have profound medical checks on an annual basis. Belarus has its Chernobyl scientific school, which research is useful for all humankind. All these aspects in the mitigation of the aftermath of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant are demonstrated in the film with concrete examples.

The 39-minute film written by Vladimir Moroz and operated by Alexander Vlasov was shot in 2016.

The 21^st international ecological TV festival To Save and Preserve is taking place in Khanty Mansiysk on 4-9 June. It is an international project that features the ecological documentary cinematography from Russia and other countries.
