MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) – The 12th Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) opened in Tschagguns, Austria, on 26 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
The Belarusian delegation participated in the opening ceremony. The captain of the Belarusian team, biathlete Nikolai Pososhnichenko from the Novopolotsk school of biathlon, carried the national flag during the parade. The national team was greeted from the stands by Belarus President's Aide for Physical Education, Sports and Tourism, First Vice President of the NOC Maxim Ryzhenkov and Secretary General of the NOC Anatoly Kotov.
The opening show featured a flame lighting ceremony. The Olympic Flame was delivered to the venue from the Greek capital of Athens. Attending the opening ceremony also were Austrian President Heinz Fischer and Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein Alois Philipp Maria.
The first competitions will be held on 26 January. World’s future sporting stars will compete in cross country skiing, figure skating, and Alpine skiing.
