MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – Belarus has received a certificate for its contribution to the activity of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), BelTA learned from the website of Belarus' National Center for Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Pollution Control and Environmental Monitoring (Belgidromet).
WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas has handed the certificate to First Deputy Head of Belgidromet Mariya Germenchuk. The document confirms the contribution of the Belarusian weather service to the resolution of issues related to environmental matters, natural disasters, climate change and conditions of water resources. “The document also stresses the importance of research, monitoring and dairy activities of Belarusian specialists (weather forecasters, hydrologists, climatologists and many others),” Belgidromet said.
The ceremony to award the certificate was held as part of the WMO conference in Geneva, Switzerland. Specialists discussed climate and weather issues, prospects to develop partnership and cooperation, and also the development of the WMO Strategic Plan 2020-2023.
