MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Belarus secured its third win in a row at the ongoing 2016 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship defeating France 3-2 at Minsk Chizhovka Arena on 12 April, BelTA has learnt.
Yuri Faikov’s men opened the scoring with a powerplay goal on the 3rd minute into the game. France made its response before the first break. Belarusians converted another powerplay chance when the game resumed. In the final stanza the teams trade goals for the final score at 3-2.
Earlier, the Belarusian national U18 team celebrated a 5-2 victory over Kazakhstan and a 6-3 win against Norway.
The overall standings of the competitions are currently topped by Belarus with nine points after three games. Then goes Germany (8 points; 3 games), Kazakhstan (4; 3), France (3; 3), Norway (3; 3), and Austria (0; 3).
On 13 April Belarus will play Austria (faceoff at 19h00 Minsk time). Norway will take on Kazakhstan (12h00), while France will go against Germany (15h30).
The winner of the tournament will move up to the top division. The team that places last will relegate to Division I Group B. The championship is organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, the Minsk City Hall and the Presidential Sport Club.
