Belarus’ Capital of Culture logo chosen in Pinsk

BREST, 23 December (BelTA) - The winner of the competition for the best logo “Pinsk is Belarus’ Capital of Culture 2019” has been announced, BelTA learned from the Pinsk city administration.

Local illustrator Viktor Saganovich has been named the winner. The central part of the logo echoes the plan of the city and symbolizes its historical heritage. White rays symbolically stand for the main directions of Pinsk streets. Behind them there are the main sightseeing attractions depicted in the author’s unique style. The composition is crowned with a bird-flower painted in the colors of the town emblem. The bird-flower symbolizes art, national traditions and crafts. Blue background resembles the color of the local river.

The logo will be published by the Pinsk regional printing house. The sign will be used in postcards, booklets and other souvenirs.

The national campaign "Pinsk is Belarus’ Capital of Culture 2019" will be officially launched on 25 January with a gala concert and an awards ceremony to honor cultural and arts professionals of the city. The Belarusian mail service Belpochta will prepare an art-designed envelope and a stamp.

During the year Pinsk will host more than 400 various events, including more than 40 major ones such as festivals of organ and church music, bard songs, an international festival of brass bands. The summer will start with a regional arts festival and a street art event and continue with a library literary marathon and a regional drawing competition to celebrate Pinsk architectural heritage. The local landmarks will be marked with QR-codes. The Belarusian Polesie Museum will prepare a series of exhibitions "Secrets of the Pinsk Land". The program will also feature theater days for lovers of scenic art, and also excursions, concerts and exhibitions.

The nationwide campaign Capital of Culture has been held in Belarus since 2010. Polotsk was the first Capital of Culture of Belarus in 2010. Gomel took over as the Capital of Culture in 2011, Nesvizh in 2012, Mogilev in 2013, Grodno in 2014, Brest in 2015, Molodechno in 2016, Bobruisk in 2017 and Novopolotsk in 2018.
