MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – The National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus will present a brilliant production of opera classics Eugene Onegin by Pyotr Tchaikovsky at Birgitta Festival to be held in Estonia from 13 to 21 August, BelTA learned from the theater.
The production will engage both dedicated opera lovers and new audiences. The masterpiece with easily recognizable tunes and breathtaking music will be performed on 20 August by Belarusian opera signers Anastasia Moskvina, Vladimir Petrov, Oksana Volkova, Yuri Gorodetsky, Natalia Akinina, Yekaterina Mikhnovets, Andrei Valenty, Alexander Gelakh, Dmitry Kapilov, Sergei Lazarevich, and Vitaly Govenko accompanied by a choir and an orchestra conducted by maestro Andrei Galanov. The chief choirmaster is Nina Lomanovich.
The program of Birgitta Festival, which will be a major cultural event of summer 2016 in Estonia, is eventful. For instance, the audience will be treated to the music and drama production Requiem…And Life Before This based on music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that will be performed by an international team of musicians from Estonia, Belgium, Germany and Latvia. The program also features Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet ballet by the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, Mozart’s opera buffa Cosi Fan Tutte by the young UK opera troupe Black Cat Opera Company, and the flamenco ballet Carmen by Bizet by the Antonio Andrade Company from Spain.
Birgitta Festival has been held at the ruins of the St Birgitta’s Convent since 2005.
