MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Belarus stormed into the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal beating Germany 4-0 in the nations’ World Group first round tie in Braunschweig on 10 February, BelTA has learned.
After three singles rubbers which ended 3-0 in Belarus’ favor, it was decided not to hold the fourth singles rubber and finish the tie with a doubles match where Victoria Azarenka and Lidziya Marozava defeated Mona Barthel and Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-1, 0-6, 11-9.
Earlier, leader of the Belarusian national team Aryna Sabalenka scooped two victories: over Andrea Petkovic (6-2, 6-1), and Laura Siegemund (6-1, 6-1). Aliaksandra Sasnovich beat Tatjana Maria 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Belarus will face Australia in the semifinal.
