MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian army team won gold at a championship where representatives of the CIS armies demonstrated their shooting skills using standard-issue weapons, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry website.
The CIS standard weapon shooting championship took place in Kyrgyzstan. Army specialists demonstrated their skills with pistols and assault rifles. The Belarusian team of Captain Andrei Kovalev, Captain Alexander Baranov, and Senior Lieutenant Ilya Bai secured the best team score of 850 points out of 900 possible points using Makarov pistols. Kyrgyzstan came second and Russia came third.
In a 100m shooting event army specialists were issued AK assault rifles and had to shoot from a standing position, a kneeling position, and a prone position. The Belarusian team of Major Alexander Stepanenko, Captain Yevgeny Andrushkevich, and Captain Ruslan Cheretun secured the second place slightly behind the Russian team. As a result of the two events the Belarusian army team became the CIS champion in shooting standard weapons.
