Belarus beat UK to secure Fed Cup semifinals
MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian women’s tennis team reached the Fed Cup semifinals after they defeated the UK in single matches in their Fed Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group I campaign in Budapest, BelTA has learned.
Olga Govortsova (world number 156) thrashed Johanna Konta 6-0, 6-1. Victoria Azarenka (49) beat Heather Watson (38) 6-4, 6-1.
In the Fed Cup opener the Belarusians saw off Georgia 3-0. Then the Belarusian team celebrated a 3-0 win over Bulgaria and a 2-1 victory against Portugal. Apart from Olga Govortsova and Victoria Azarenka the Belarusian team comprised Alexandra Sasnovich (143) and Vera Lapko (838).v
