MINSK, 7 April (BelTA) – Belarus defeated Canada 4-3 in the quarterfinal of the Hockey World League Round 2, BelTA has learned.
Following two losses from India (0-1) and Uruguay (2-3) in the qualifying in Vancouver Belarus faced the hosts of the tournament in the quarterfinal.
Taking a first-half three-goal lead, Canada got too comfortable and allowed Belarus four-straight second half goals on route to book a spot into the semifinals against India.
Olga Skriba, Marina Nikitina, Yulia Mikheichik and Rita Batura scored for Belarus.
Belarus will face India on 8 April. The other semifinal match will see Chile against Uruguay.
The finalists of the Hockey World League Round 2 will continue their contention in the semifinal stage together with 12 top teams in the FIH Hero World Ranking. The semifinals are due to take place in Johannesburg and Brussels in June-July 2017.
