MINSK, 21 March (BelTA) – Belarus has assumed the functions of the Eurasian Bureau of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Mariya Germenchuk, head of the National Center of Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Pollution Control and Environmental Monitoring of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Belarus, told media on 21 March, BelTA has learned.
“The date of opening the Eurasian Bureau will depend on the decision of the World Meteorological Congress. But in fact we have already started performing its functions,” noted Maria Germenchuk.
In her words, Belarus’ initiative to set up the Eurasian Bureau of the World Meteorological Organization in Minsk was agreed at the 17th WMO congress. “During the pre-congress period, we will perform these functions thus making a voluntary contribution to the activity of the organization,” Maria Germenchuk explained.
