MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – Chairperson of the Belarusian Chess Federation Anastasia Sorokina has been elected Vice President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) at the General Assembly in Batumi, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry.
Former Vice Premier of the Russian government Arkady Dvorkovich was named the new FIDE president.
The official presentation of Belarus’ bid to host the 2022 World Chess Olympiad in Minsk will be held on 4 October.
Belarus placed its bid to host the tournament during the FIDE Presidential Board at Minsk Town Hall in April 2018.
