MOSCOW, 27 June (BelTA) – A wreath from the Belarusian Embassy in Russia was laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow on 27 June. The solemn ceremony marked the 73rd anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders and Belarus' Independence Day, BelTA has learned.
Attending the ceremony were Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota, ministers of the Eurasian Economic commission Sergei Sidorsky and Valery Koreshkov, Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State Sergei Strelchenko, Russian MPs, representatives of the integration agencies, the Belarusian community in Russia and diplomats.
The participants in the ceremony also laid flowers at the memorials Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress in the Alley of Hero Cities in Moscow's Alexander Gardens. A military orchestra performed the Belarusian anthem. The ceremony concluded with a march of the guards of honor.
“3 July is the sacred date not only for all Belarusians but also for Russians. The people of Belarus and Russia have preserved their common historical memory,” Ambassador Igor Petrishenko told reporters after the ceremony. “According to the established tradition, we gather at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to pay tribute to the memory of those who died defending peace and freedom for us. During these memorable days we strongly feel the spirit of fraternity. We confidently look into the future of our relations. I think that our heads of state will set out another tasks and give impulses to our relations during the forthcoming summit of the Union State and the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia,” Igor Petrishenko emphasized.
