MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus has advanced to the second round of the Madrid Open 2018, BelTA has learned.
In the opener the Belarusian defeated Danielle Collins 7-5, 6-2. Aliaksandra Sasnovich will next face Anett Kontaveit of Estonia who saw off Venus Williams of the United States 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
After beating Aleksandra Krunic 6-3, 6-3, Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka will next take on Czech’s Karolina Pliskova who defeated Russia’s Elena Vesnina 6-4, 6-2.
Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus failed to reach the round of last 32, losing to Bernarda Pera of the United States 4-6, 6-2, 3-6.
In the men’s doubles event Belarus’ Max Mirnyi and Kevin Anderson of South Africa will face the Austrian-Croatian duet of Alexander Peya and Nikola Mektic.
