MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarus women’s national football team placed 3rd at the international tournament Balaton Cup 2018 in Hungary, BelTA informs.
In the first semifinal Eduard Demenkovets’s team drew with Serbia 1-1 in the regulation (Viktoria Kazakevich scored on Belarus’ side). In a penalty shootout Serbia edged Belarus 3-2. In the bronze medal game Belarus also drew with Hungary 1-1 in the regulation (Karina Olkhovik scored on Belarus’ side). In a penalty shootout Belarus was victorious 8-7.
Serbia clinched the champion title after blanking Romania 3-0 in the final.
Belarus won silver in 2017 and celebrated victory at the Balaton Cup in 2016.
FC Minsk is currently holding a training camp in the Czech Republic to gear up for the 2018-19 UEFA Women’s Champions League. In the first test match Yuri Maleyev’s team whitewashed SKN St. Polten 4-0 and then beat AC Sparta Praha 2-0.
In the UEFA Women’s Champions League second qualifying round FC Minsk will take on Olimpija Ljubljana on 7 August, Slovan Bratislava on 10 August and Barcelona FA on 13 August. The winners of ten qualifying groups and also two best runners-up will advance to the round of Last 32.
