MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – The victory in the Fed Cup World Group semifinal tie over Switzerland took Belarus up to the second spot in the ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking, BelTA has learned.
Belarus was 5th in the ranking ahead of the tie against Switzerland. The 3-2 victory in Minsk secured for Belarus its first Fed Cup final and the second position in the ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking.
The Czech Republic, which won the Fed Cup in the previous three seasons, tops the chart. Czechia, however, will be unable to win it for the fourth time as it lost its semifinal tie to the United States 2-3. The United States is currently third in the nations ranking.
This season’s final will take place in Minsk on 11-12 November. Belarus and the United States met each other on the court only once, with the U.S. claiming a 5-0 victory in 2012.
The United States as won the Fed Cup tournament 17 times. For Belarus it will be the first participation in the Fed Cup World Group final.
