MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – BC Horizont lifted their maiden trophy of the European Women’s Basketball League (EWBL) on 4 April, BelTA has learned.
In the deciding game of the Final Four, held in Belarus’ Molodechno, Natalia Trofimova’s team held nerve to defeat BC Nika Syktyvkar, Russia 70-60. Anastasiya Verameyenka led the home team with 20 points.
In the semifinal Belarus beat BC Prometey Kamianske, Ukraine 84-73, while BC Nika edged TTT Riga 72-64.
The 2021 EWBL bronze game between Prometey Kamianske and TTT Riga was canceled due to the positive PCR test in a Prometey team.
The tournament was first held in 2015/2016. TTT Riga and Young Angels Kosice from Slovakia won the tournament twice. In 2019 BC Tsmoki Minsk lost to TTT Riga in the final. Last year the competitions were not completed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
