MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 150 Egor Gerasimov has moved into the Bavarian International round of Last 16 in Munich, Germany, defeating world number 79 John Millman of Australia, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, in two hours and 15 minutes, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next play Netherlands’ world number 40 Botic van de Zandschulp. Gerasimov went through the qualifying, seeing off Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina and Thiago Monteiro of Brazil.
Belarus’ world number 44 Ilya Ivashka battled through world number 51 Mackenzie McDonald of the United States, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in the round of Last 32. The Belarusian will next play Georgia’s world number 20 Nikoloz Basilashvili.
Belarusian tennis players will kick off their Madrid Open run on 28 April. World number 4 Aryna Sabalenka will open against world number 33 Amanda Anisimova of the United States. World number 17 Victoria Azarenka will take on world number 39 Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland. Belarus’ world number 50 Aliaksandra Sasnovich lost to world number 114 Danka Kovinic of Montenegro, 4-6, 2-6, in the qualifying.
The tournament in Munich will be over on 1 May, the one in Madrid on 7 May.
