MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Ivan Rakitic scored twice in the second half as Barcelona won 2-0 at Borisov Arena in the UEFA Champions League group stage action on 20 October, BelTA has learned.
The game at the sold-out arena kicked off with the guests’ sharp attacks. Barca put a lot of pressure on BATE’s Sergei Chernik, but the Borisov goalkeeper stood impenetrable in the first half. However, as soon as the game restarted the Belarusian goalie could not resist any longer and Ivan Rakitic quickly netted his first of the night. The Croatia midfielder scored again on 65 minutes to extend Barca's Group E lead.
BATE remain in third thanks to Roma's draw.
Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen drew with Roma 4-4.
The Group E standings are as follows: Barcelona – 7 points, Bayer Leverkusen – 4, BATE Borisov – 3, and Roma – 2.
BATE Borisov and Barcelona meet again in the Camp Nou on 4 November.
Two best teams from each group will advance into the round of 16. Teams finishing third will play in the Europa League Last 32.
