Ballet class for people with disabilities to open in Minsk

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – A special ballet class for people with disabilities will be opened in the Ballet Studio private school in Minsk, BelTA learned from the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus.

This ballet school is ready not only to develop special training programs for people with disabilities, but also to do it for free. The project is implemented in partnership with the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus and the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation with the support and active participation of the Belarusian Association of Assistance to Children and Young People with Disabilities. The opening of the class will be attended by the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki and Ambassador of the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation, principal dancer of the Tatar State Opera and Ballet in Kazan Oleg Ivenko.

On 4 March the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus will show the ballet Don Quixote, where Oleg Ivenko will perform the role of Basilio. Before the performance, the audience will see a special video, and will also be able to try the products of the Inclusive Barista social project for free.

The events are timed to the Zero Discrimination Day which has been observed worldwide on 1 March every year since 2014 under the auspices of UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS). This day is not limited to the themes of HIV infection or healthcare, it draws attention to problems related to discrimination based on gender, race, age, or disability.
