MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Belarus number one Victoria Azarenka took part in the Kids Tennis Day at Melbourne ahead of the start of the 2016 Australian Open.
Such entertainment shows are held on a regular basis before big sport tournaments and draw much attention from young tennis fans. On the Melbourne Park courts Victoria Azarenka joined by other world’s best tennis players as well as Nickelodeon’s popular cartoon characters played jokingly during the campaign.
As for the 2016 Australian Open, Victoria Azarenka, currently ranked 16th in the WTA rankings, will face World No.44 Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium in the opener. It will be their first WTA head-to-head. Victoria Azarenka will make her 11th appearance at the Australian Open. The Belarusian won the title in Melbourne twice: in 2012 and 2013.
Belarus will also be represented at the tournament by two more players. World No.72 Olga Govortsova will open against Germany’s Tatjana Maria (75), while Alexandra Sasnovich (106) will take on Russia’s Evgenia Rodina (90).
