MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 23 Victoria Azarenka became the first player through to the quarterfinals at the Brisbane International thanks to a 7-5, 6-2 win over France's world number 56 Clara Burel, BelTA has learned.
Earlier, Victoria Azarenka defeated world number 80 Anna Kalinskaya of Russia, 6-1, 7-6 (10-8), to advance to the round of 16.
Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka needed just 58 minutes to pocket her first win of the season, defeating Italy's world number 52 Lucia Bronzetti, 6-3, 6-0, in the second round of the Brisbane International.
Aryna Sabalenka will next face China’s world number 33 Zhu Lin.
Belarus’ world number 366 Egor Gerasimov reached the Challenger Oeiras quarterfinals, defeating world number 278 Mathias Bourgue of France, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, in the second round. The match lasted for two hours and five minutes. In the opener the Belarusian beat Portugal’s world number 742 Tiago Pereira, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.
