Azarenka into Dubai 2024 second round

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka went off to a good start at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships defeating Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands, 6-2, 6-4, in an hour and 20 minutes to progress to the second round, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will next face Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina.

Belarus’ world number two Aryna Sabalenka will open her Dubai run against Croatia’s Donna Vekic.

Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Laura Siegemund of Germany beat Japan’s Eri Hozumi and Makoto Ninomiya in the doubles opener. They will next face Belgium’s Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei from Taiwan.

The competitions in the capital of the UAE will be over on 24 February.
