MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) - Former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, currently ranked 67, continued to win in her debut showing at the Abierto GNP Seguros, as she defeated Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan, 6-3, 6-2 on 4 April to advance into the quarterfinals, BelTA has learned.
In the opener the Belarusian knocked out qualifier Miyu Kato of Japan, 6-4, 6-2. Victoria Azarenka will next play Russia’s world number 33 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Belarus’ world number ten Aryna Sabalenka lost to Puerto-Rico’s Monica Puig (World No.63) 2-6, 5-7 in the Charleston third round. In the opener the Belarusian battled past Ukraine’s world number 99 Kateryna Kozlova 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
In the women’s doubles quarterfinal the Belarusian-Japanese duet of Lidziya Marozava and Shuko Aoyama lost to Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and Alicja Rosolska of Poland 0-6, 1-6.
