MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 16 Victoria Azarenka reached the 2021 Roland Garros round of Last 16, BelTA has learned.
The former world number one cruised past world number 24 Madison Keys of the United States 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and one minute. Earlier, the Belarusian solved Russia’s world number 40 Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 and defeated world number 90 Clara Tauson of Denmark 7-5, 6-4.
Victoria Azarenka will next face Russia’s world number 32 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who beat world number 4 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. Aryna Sabalenka saw off Croatia’s world number 144 Ana Konjuh 6-4, 6-3 in the opener and later defeated fellow Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (World No.103) 7-5, 6-3. Aliaksandra Sasnovich fought past France’s world number 307 Diane Parry 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the opener. In the doubles opener Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk lost to the Latvian-Romanian duo of Jelena Ostapenko and Monica Niculescu 0-6, 3-6.
The second Grand Slam tournament of the season will be over in Paris on 13 June.
