MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus has reached the quarterfinal of the Dubai Tennis Championships, BelTA has learned.
In the round of Last 16 the world number two saw off world number 20 Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. Earlier, Aryna Sabalenka took a solid win over world number 49 Lauren Davis of the United States, 6-0, 6-1.
In the quarterfinal the Belarusian will face world number 30 Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic.
Belarus’ world number 14 Victoria Azarenka lost to world number 23 Madison Keys of the United States, 2-6, 1-6, in the third round. The Belarusian defeated Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 6-3, 7-5, in the opener and proved stronger against world number 35 Amanda Anisimova, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), in the second round. Madison Keys will next play world number 6 Coco Gauff of the United States who saw off Belarus’ world number 43 Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-0, 6-4.
The tournament in Dubai will be over on 25 February.
