MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) – Sochi 2014 Olympic champion Alla Tsuper carried the flag for Team Belarus at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang on 9 February, BelTA informs.
The Belarusian delegation was the 29th to step on the Olympic arena among 92 countries taking part in the 2018 Olympic Games. Apart from Alla Tsuper, the Belarusian national team includes two more Olympic champions Anton Kushnir (aerials) and Darya Domracheva (biathlon), Olympic bronze medalist Nadezhda Skardino and skier Sergei Dolidovich who is going to compete in his seventh Olympics.
Team Belarus at PyeongChang 2018 includes another 27 Belarusian athletes: Sergei Bocharnikov, Maksim Vorobei, Anton Smolski, Roman Eletnov, Vladimir Chepelin, Dinara Alimbekova, Irina Krivko, Nadezhda Pisareva (biathlon); Stanislav Gladchenko, Maksim Gustik, Anna Guskova, Aleksandra Romanovskaya (aerial skiing); Yuri Astapenko, Alexander Voronov, Mikhail Semenov, Valentina Kaminskaya, Yulia Tikhonova, Polina Seronosova, Anastasia Kirillova (cross country); Ignat Golovatyuk, Vitaly Mikhailov, Marina Zuyeva, Tatyana Mikhailova, Ksenia Sadovskaya (speed skating); Yuriy Danilochkin, Maria Shkanova (alpine skiing); Maksim Sergeyev (short track).
Belarus places its medal hopes on biathlon and aerial skiing. This is the seventh time Belarus is taking part in the Winter Olympics as an independent team. All in all, Team Belarus has won 15 medals: 6 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals.
