MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Aleksandra Sasnovich of Belarus has been presented with the Fed Cup Heart Award for the second time, the Belarusian Tennis Federation told BelTA.
The Fed Cup Heart Award recognizes players who have represented their country with distinction, shown exceptional courage on court and demonstrated outstanding commitment to the team during Fed Cup by BNP Paribas. The award was first presented in 2009.
This year as part of the Belarusian national team Aleksandra Sasnovich defeated Dutch players Kiki Bertens and Michaella Krajicek and also Viktorija Golubic and Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland to put Belarus one win away from a first-ever Fed Cup Final. A year ago Aleksandra Sasnovich was also presented with this prestigious award.
This year the Fed Cup Heart Award also went to Arina Sobolenko of Belarus, who made a successful appearance on Fed Cup court. In 2011 the Fed Cup Heart Award was presented to Victoria Azarenka.
The Belarusian women’s national team defeated the Netherlands (4-1) and Switzerland (3-2) to reach their first Fed Cup Final. The final against the United States is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 11-12 November.
