MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Artyom Bashlakov claimed the first medal for Belarus at the 18th Winter Universiade in Almaty, taking silver in the aerials, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian scored 90.94 points in the final, just behind the winner from China who scored the total of 97.99. Bronze went to another Chinese freestyle skier (90.94 points).
In the women’s event Vera Lyashkevich of Belarus finished fourth with the total of 50.96 points.
Maria Shkanova was 8th in the Giant Slalom. Anastasia Maingardt finished 11th in the 5km skiing.
Belarus has also fielded its athletes in biathlon, speed skating and figure skating.
